Activities week a success…

The SPIN Activities Week (Monday 20th to Friday 24th August) was a great success. Held at Tamworth Youth Centre, around 30 members accessed the week and took part in various craft and sewing activities, sports, food hygiene and cooking for one, money management, gardening in a pot, internet safety, personal hygiene (hair, skin, nail and foot care), simple first aid, relationship training, money management, line dancing and a talk on benefits and work opportunities available for those with special needs from Chris Mortimer from Tamworth Jobcentre Plus.

SPIN was pleased to have a visit from Mayor Tina Clements on Tuesday. She had a go at some of the sports being played and had her photo taken with some of the members. SPIN is one of the Mayor’s charities.

Mid-week SPIN members were joined by a group of teenagers from Tamworth Youth Centre who hosted the day for them, running the ‘SPIN Olympics’ in the form of a ‘Spinathlon’ – a five-sport event for anyone who wanted to take part. The group also gave out healthy eating advice and cooked a healthy lunch. At the end of the day that went really well the group presented certificates and medals to those SPIN members who had taken part.

Volunteering to run the day was used as part of an award being done by the Tamworth Youth Centre young people, and SPIN was pleased to help them run activities that could be used as evidence towards achieving their award.

The two groups integrated so well that on the final day the teenagers joined the SPIN group again for lunch and an afternoon disco.
